Srilanka: Colombo ranked among the worst 10 livable cities - உலகின் மிக மோசமான தலைநகரங்களில் ஒன்று கொழும்பு

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) Liveability Survey released this month, the commercial capital of Sri Lanka: Colombo has been ranked among the worst 10 livable cities in the world! The said survey has been carried out targeting 140 cities around the world. However, Colombo had been placed in the 131st position, out of the 140 cities surveyed.

The index ranks cities with an overall rating which is then subdivided into categories of Stability, Healthcare, Culture & Environment, Education and Infrastructure- on a scale from 100 to 0 with hundred being the "ideal" and zero "intolerable".

According to the survey, "the concept of liveability is simple: it assesses which locations around the world provide the best or the worst living conditions."

Interestingly the highest ranking cities are located in Australia and Canada- the countries with the largest Sri Lankan Diaspora. Vancouver, Canada is at the top, followed by Melbourne. Toronto, Calgary, Sydney, Perth and Adelaide fall within the top ten. Other top ten contenders include Auckland (New Zealand), Helsinki (Finland) and Vienna (Austria).

Sri Lanka heads the low-rankers with an overall rating of 48.5 followed by Dakar (Senegal), Tehran (Iran), Douala (Cameroon), Karachi (Pakistan), Algiers (Algeria), Lagos (Nigeria), Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea) and Dhaka (Bangladesh) respectively. The bottom spot is held with an overall rating of 37.5 by Harare, Zimbabwe.

மோசமான தலைநகரம் கொழும்பு
 
உலகின் மிக மோசமான பத்து தலைநகரங்களில் கொழும்பும் ஒன்று என்பதாக பிரிட்டனிலிருந்து வெளியாகும் த எகொனமிஸ்ட் சஞ்சிகை கருத்துத் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

உலகின் தலைசிறந்த தலைநகரங்கள் மற்றும் மோசமான தலைநகரங்கள் குறித்து அச்சஞ்சிகை நடாத்திய ஆய்வொன்றின் முடிவை அண்மையில் வெளியிட்டிருந்தது. அதன் அடிப்படையிலேயே கொழும்பு மோசமான தலைநகரங்களில் ஒன்றாக பட்டியலிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

உலக நாடுகளின் தலைநகரங்களில் காணப்படும் சுகாதாரம், கலாசாரம், சுற்றாடல்,கல்வி, தனி நபர் பாதுகாப்பு உள்ளிட்ட இன்னும் மேலதிகமான முப்பது அம்சங்களை உள்ளடக்கியதாக அந்த ஆய்வு மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டிருந்தது.

அந்தப் பட்டியலின் பிரகாரம் மோசமான தலைநகரங்களின் வரிசையில் கொழும்பு பத்தாவது இடத்தை பிடித்துள்ள போதிலும், ஏனைய நகரங்களை விட அதுதான் மிக மோசமான தலைநகரம் என்பதாக அச்சஞ்சிகை குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளது.
